Hello! I'm Mr. Slate and here you can find the patch notes for v.1.30 of the itchio version of Giant's Steps! This is the latest and as of today current Giant's Steps version for PC.
If you'd like to support me, please consider joining my Patreon for frequent updates.
I used this release to bring a ton of new content in the form of new items, enemies and unlockable tools. I also added combat backgrounds and improved the look of multiple screens! On top of that I also included many stability and quality of life improvements! With that said...
Let's get to the Giant's Steps v1.30 Patch Notes!
Added Null and Radiant Damage types!
New damage types! These act very similarly to physical but have their own defence values. They are also used by enemies in different ways - you'll now encounter enemies who deal one, two or all three types of damage in combat! Enemies can also be vulnerable, resistant or immune to certain types of damage!
Likewise, you'll find gear that deals damage of all three types of damage and other that boosts your defences to them!
Overall, the new damage types are fully integrated in all systems of GS!
Added 20 new Weapons, Armor and Consumables!
A large part of those are the two new consumable types - damaging and tool-recharging. I also added the ranged weapon type and added 6 ranged weapons. They can't use your strength but have much higher critical damage so are perfect for Dex/Overdrive builds! There are also new armour pieces that fit the lore and provide good protection to the new damage types!
Added 2 new Enemies!
I noticed I was missing a couple of enemy types and so made one new enemy for the Wastelander and Mechanist factions! Speaking of factions - there are a lot more enemies incoming in a future patch!
Added 1 new Unlockable Tool!
The new addition is called the Void Generator and like the Overdrive and Stimulant tools is recharged by dealing damage. It deals a ton of Null damage - think of it as a fireball made of a black hole! You gain this tool by defeating the boss of the 3rd biome - the Manufactured!
Added the Item Discovery stat!
Added a new stat that allows you to discover better gear earlier! One of the classes starts with equipment that grants you a fairly high boost to this stat so you should be able to see the difference easily!
Added Biome Backgrounds!
I left the best for last! I used the same vector lines tool I used for enemies to create some awesome backgrounds based on the biome you're in! I'm so happy with the result that I'll be adding quite a lot more of these in the next update!
Major rebalance of all Enemies and Items!
Pretty much every single stat was changed on player and enemy items as well as on enemies. There are now much bigger differences between the archetypes. For example, tanks have much more defence or health while nimble enemies have much higher chance to evade and use multiple attacks!
Major rework of the Diablo-style Item system.
Bonuses are now much more reliably added to items. There are also tiers that dictate how many bonuses you can get on an item! This works really well with the Item Discovery stat!
Complete rework of the Tools system!
You used to be able to have all tools equipped at the same time. No more! You have to choose which of your unlocked tools you want to use between fights! Are you low on health - stimulant makes more sense, are you about to face a boss - maybe the Void Generator makes sense for that massive one-time damage! And overdrive is just a beast so use that whenever really - it's always going to save your ass! The new tool belt screen is accessible from the map screen and includes short lore and stats for each tool!
Improved Character Creation!
You can now see the names, descriptions, weapons and starting abilities of each class! The flavour text also informs the implied game-play style!
Improved visuals and usability of most screens!
Pretty much every screen has been touched in some way! I've tried to add more readability, while placing text where it makes most sense! One of the main reasons to move tools to their own screen was to show some new stats on the character sheet. There is still quite a lot of text but I'll try and streamline this in the next update!
Fixed Bugs!
I lost count. I actually lost count of how many bugs I fixed in this version. It was a lot though. This version should be much more stable than the last!

So these were the Giant's Steps patch notes for v1-3. Let me know what you think in the comments or on our Discord server!
Thank you all for your time! I work hard on these patches so please consider giving Giant's Steps a try!
Have a great week and like always,
